Fines for discriminating against Catalan

The Catalan government collected almost €3,350,000 thanks to fines “for discriminating against the Catalan language” in 2022. A total of 470 enterprises were fined last year. Fines were imposed on companies that did not comply with the Consumer Protection Law, which requires the use of the Catalan language in services and products. Several restaurants in Barcelona went bankrupt after huge fines for not having a menu in Catalan. Clothing brands Levi Strauss and Bimba y Lola were also punished for being "hostile" to the Catalan language by not labeling their products accordingly.
