More than 467.9 million passengers used public transport in May, 16.6% more than in the same month of 2022, the Spanish INE reports.
City transport was used by more than 284.2 million passengers in May, 19.9% more than in the same month of 2022.
Metro transport increased by 19.0% in annual rate. Málaga's metro registered the highest increase (106.9%), on the other hand, Sevilla’s is the only decrease (−4.0%).
Among the cities with a metro, the highest increase in bus transport was registered in Palma (44.0%), and the lowest in Sevilla (7.0%).
City transport by bus increased by 20.6% in May, as compared with the same month of 2022.
All the Autonomous Communities showed positive annual rates. The highest increases were shown in Canarias (42.8%), Castilla y León (28.5% in both cases) and Extremadura and Castilla - La Mancha (28.4%).
In turn, Cataluña (11.9%) and Comunidad de Madrid, Andalucía and Aragón (18.5% of the three) showed the lowest increases in bus transport.

By mode of transport, rail transport increased by 17.9%, bus transport by 15.8%, air transport by 13.5%, and maritime transport by 8.9%.
Commuter transport increased by 12.5% by bus and by rail transport by 15.4%. Regional transport increased by 24.3% by bus and by 51.7% by rail transport.
Finally, long-distance transport increased by 24.6% by bus and by 24.0% by rail transport. Within the latter, high-speed railway increased by 34.5%.
