Digital nomads crowding out local residents

City News
In Barcelona, there has been an influx of digital nomads who were recently given the green light. Spanish authorities are issuing attractive specialized visas for those who work remotely for other countries but wish to live in Spain. In the Barcelona district of Poblenou, tenants are already complaining that they have to move because of the digital nomads, as rental prices in the area have sharply risen. Digital nomads, especially from France, Great Britain, and Russia, are willing to pay astronomical sums for rental housing.

The local population is also concerned about prices, for example, for beer. Prices in local bars have sharply risen due to more affluent nomads. However, the authorities of Poblenou do not share the residents' dissatisfaction. According to them, digital nomads bring much more benefit to the local economy than, for example, tourists.
