Date: August 31
Location: Castell de Montjuïc
We are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the record label Slow Walk Music, specializing in African musicians residing in Barcelona. Active since 2013, with nearly 30 recorded works, originating from diverse backgrounds, languages, and musical genres, some of which are being registered for the first time in the country.
To celebrate this occasion, apart from releasing several new albums throughout the year, ASACC and Sala Barcelona have organized this special night with African sounds, featuring Alma Afrobeat Ensemble and Kwame Adzraku.
Alma Afrobeat Ensemble is an international band. It plays original music, combining the Afrobeat style of Nigerian singer and frontman Joe "Olawale" Psalmist with the psychedelic rock influences of the group's founder, Aaron Feder (originally from Chicago). Feder plays the guitar and creates live loops during the performance. The result is a modern and classic Afrobeat style, with melodies and sonic textures from another world, thanks to J.J. Oliva (keyboards and synthesizers, from Argentina). The band boasts an unstoppable and incredibly funky groove, driven by the rhythm section composed of bassist Fernando "Dinky" Redondo (Canary Islands) and drummer Gustavo "Tato" Sassone (Argentina), who also triggers sounds and rhythms with a sampler.
Kwame Adzraku presents his new album 'Don't Worry About The Life.' The album is filled with vibrant Afrobeat, both original and contemporary, with nods to Latin rhythms and DJ influences. It's a fun and clever fusion of High Life and the sinuous Azonto dance style. Kwame Adzraku, an Afrobeat pioneer in Spain, hails from the Ewe people of Ghana. His musical journey led him to Lagos, where he crossed paths with Fela Kuti and Tony Allen, a transformative experience that shaped his career.
