Magnetika, a Barcelona-born company established in 2018, is reshaping the way electric bicycles and scooters are charged through wireless technology, the CatalanNews reports. With the goal of enhancing the convenience of charging electric vehicles, this company has been developing prototypes of wireless charging stations utilizing magnetic resonance technology.
The envisioned system is anticipated to streamline and expedite the charging process, while also addressing concerns such as vandalism and misuse of charging stations. Looking for expansion and increased market presence, Magnetika is actively seeking investment, aiming to secure €1 million by year-end. The funds will be directed towards enlarging their laboratory space and workforce, which currently consists of six employees.
Eugeni Llagostera, Magnetika's executive director, highlights their collaborative approach: “We are collaborating on projects that incorporate this technology into end products. Our business model involves licensing this technology for integration into larger-scale productions.”
One standout feature of their technology, according to Llagostera, is that “the charger and the device do not require perfect alignment, making magnetic chargers suitable for a range of electronics such as phones, laptops, or drones.”
The company's collaborations extend to partnerships with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and the Barcelona council. They are jointly working on a project to develop rapid wireless charging stations for an electric mobility service in the Catalan capital.
Llagostera notes that “new charging technologies are crucial to accelerating the electrification of mobility in Spain.” He points out that Spain's electric vehicle market is progressing, but at a slower pace compared to Europe's growth trajectory.
Despite selling more than 64,000 electric vehicles, this figure falls short of the target of 190,000 electric cars by 2023, as indicated by data from the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers. Llagostera concludes that this technology is pivotal for transportation advancement, offering a promising avenue to transition away from fossil fuels and towards electrification.
