First Lufthansa’s southern European hub in Barcelona

Business
Lufthansa Group, Europe's largest airline conglomerate, will establish its inaugural digital hub in Barcelona, marking its first major venture into southern Europe, the CatalanNews Agency reports. With a focus on technological initiatives, the hub is expected to employ 300 professionals in the coming years, collaborating with the Catalan digital transformation enterprise Quantion to explore technological solutions for booking, customer service, and other projects.

The company is actively seeking various positions, including product owners, agile coaches, solution architects, scrum masters, business analysts, software engineers, UI/UX designers, and data and analytics specialists. The Catalan government commended the efforts of Catalonia's ACCIÓ Trade and Investment Office in securing the agreement.

While Lufthansa serves as the group's largest airline, the digital hub will also support Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Swiss Air. Presently, the group operates digital hubs in Brussels (Belgium), Frankfurt (Germany), Vienna (Austria), Zurich (Switzerland), and Gdansk (Poland) with approximately 1,000 employees.

Christian Spannbauer, from the Lufthansa Digital Hangar, emphasized that the search for the ideal location encompassed not only finding the right partner but also considering the favorable environment and ecosystem, ultimately leading them to choose Barcelona.
