Seat, the Spanish automobile manufacturer, has unveiled plans to invest €300 million in a battery cell factory near Barcelona. The company aims to create a state-of-the-art facility at its Martorell site, which will employ approximately 500 workers.
With a targeted completion date of 2025, this ambitious project showcases Seat's dedication to strengthening its position in the EV market while contributing to the economic growth and job creation in the Barcelona region.
The factory will cover an area of 64,000 square feet, which is the same as nine football pitches, and it will be situated alongside another factory owned by Seat in the same city, the CatalanNews report. The CEO of Seat, Wayne Griffiths, emphasized the significance of this day, pointing out that it marks progress in their plan to switch to electric vehicles.
The new facility will provide direct employment to 400 individuals and indirectly support another 100 jobs. Additionally, the facility will manufacture cells that will be utilized by the Volkswagen group's factory located in Sagunto, within the Valencian region.
