A 200 euro fine for riding on sidewalks

City News
A prohibition has been implemented in Barcelona which restricts the use of bicycles and scooters on any sidewalks within the city. From now on, transportation must be conducted solely on designated bicycle lanes.

As it is expected, the new regulations on the movement of bicycles and scooters will put an end to any possibility of using sidewalks and paths intended for pedestrians. The fine for violating the rules and riding on sidewalks and pedestrian areas will be 200 euros. There is also a speed limit of 30 km/h for bicycles and scooters when moving on bicycle lanes.

Only children will be treated with understanding. According to the new rules, children under the age of 12 will be able to ride bicycles or scooters on any sidewalk accompanied by adults.

Previously in Barcelona, it was allowed to ride bicycles and scooters on sidewalks that were 5 meters wide or wider. But cyclists and scooter riders, using this rule, continued to ride on all sidewalks in the city. The police, in its turn, simply turned a blind eye to the fact. But now they will be strict.
