The average number of patients in the pediatric department of the hospital has increased from almost 200 children in 2013 to more than 800 in 2022. The majority of children with cancer come from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), which makes up around 30% of patients, and the EU countries, which is 25%. SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital has helped many families who were devastated when their children got cancer and local doctors in their countries couldn't help them.

These remarkable results have been achieved by attracting specialists from around the world who specialize in the treatment of cancer and its consequences. SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital is dedicated to comprehensive care for women, children and adolescents, and is one of the most important specialized pediatric centers in Europe.

Through the Sant Joan de Déu Research Foundation, they conduct research to find new and better treatments for pediatric diseases. As a university hospital, they contribute to the training of health professionals, together with the Universitat de Barcelona. The goal is not only to promote and encourage the training of their professionals to improve the health of patients and the community, but also to advance scientific and human knowledge.
