School segregation reduced in Barcelona

City News
Infants at municipal nursery schools outnumber private enrollments for the first time, according to the Barcelona Educational Opportunities Report 2022. The study shows significant reductions in school segregation, increased pass rates in secondary school, and improved support for students with special education needs. However, there is still a shortage of places in municipal nursery schools, with 43.2% of families unable to secure enrollment. Access to the first year of infant schooling remains limited, with only 44.3% of infants attending.

While there are positive trends in student progression and lower rates of repeating years, socioeconomic disparities persist, particularly among boys of foreign nationality. The report also highlights the wide range of extracurricular activities available in Barcelona, including sports, cultural pursuits, languages, educational support, and science and technology. The summer holiday campaign has experienced significant growth, with over 124,000 activities in the latest edition.
